HEAVEN OR LAS VEGAS (1990)
Elizabeth Fraser's voice as instrument, Robin Guthrie's shimmering guitar walls, Simon Raymonde's melodic bass. "Cherry-coloured Funk" opens with that iconic guitar tone, "Fifty-fifty Clown" feels like floating, "Heaven or Las Vegas" is pure euphoria. The pinnacle of their discography.

SELECTED AMBIENT WORKS 85-92 (1992)
The blueprint for ambient electronic music. "Xtal" with its breathy vocals and shimmering melodies, "Ageispolis" with its hypnotic bassline, "Heliosphan" that feels like flying over digital landscapes. Recorded on cassette in Richard D. James' bedroom, it sounds like the future 30 years later.
🎵 DARKWAVE & POST-PUNK
🖤
DISINTEGRATION (1989)
The definitive gothic rock album. "Plainsong" opens with those shimmering synths like rain on a cathedral window. "Pictures of You" is nostalgia distilled into sound. "Lullaby" feels like being wrapped in a spiderweb. Robert Smith at his most vulnerable and theatrical. The production is dense, layered, immersive.

ETAZHI (2018)
Belarusian post-punk that went viral on TikTok but deserves deeper listening. "Судно" (Sudno) with its driving bassline and detached vocals. The entire album sounds like wandering through Soviet-era apartment blocks in the rain. Minimalist, repetitive, hypnotic. Russian lyrics add to the mysterious atmosphere.

MUSIC HAS THE RIGHT TO CHILDREN (1998)
Hazy, nostalgic, eerie. Like memories of childhood television broadcasts. "Roygbiv" is pure joy. "Aquarius" with its sampled children's voices. "Turquoise Hexagon Sun" feels like sunshine through fog. The production is deliberately degraded, sounding like old VHS tapes or educational films. Hauntology before the term was popular.
🌃
DRIVE (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK) (2011)
The album that launched the synthwave revival. Kavinsky's "Nightcall" is iconic 80s nostalgia. Cliff Martinez's score is minimalist and pulsating. Desire's "Under Your Spell" is dreamy italo-disco. College & Electric Youth's "A Real Hero" is the heart of the film. Perfect for nighttime drives through neon-lit cities.

DÉSIR (2021)
French minimal wave artist. Helène de Thoury's vocals are detached and mysterious, floating over pulsating basslines and minimal drum machines. "Fata Morgana" is hypnotic. "L'impatience" has this driving energy. The production is clean but still feels cold and distant. Perfect for late nights and introspection.
